Remembering the 56

Pastor Oly remembers the 56 lives lost 38 years ago

A memorial service was held to mark the 38th anniversary of the Bradford City fire in which 56 people died.

The disaster happened as Bradford City played Lincoln City at Valley Parade in the Bantams’ final season home game on 11 May 1985.

As a result of the fire, 56 Bradford City fans and two Lincoln City supporters lost their lives.

The service occurred at the Bradford City Fire Memorial sculpture in Centenary Square.

Oliver, our pastor, is the chaplain at BCAFC and hosted the service alongside the Dean of Bradford, Andy Bowerman and Bishop Toby.

Oly commented that it was such a joy and privilege to speak at the service and meet with the players to share footage of the fire and explain the importance of the disaster.

Andy gave thanks and talked about how God is with us amid trial and heartache.
